Last Wednesday morning, we got to visit the Tamar center, an organization that focuses on housing and providing jobs for women who want out of prostitution. It was exciting to be there because I have heard a lot about Tamar throughout this entire DTS. We joined the staff for worship and intercession, then got a tour of the place. They have two locations downtown amongst the red light districts. One building has a salon that employs former prostitutes and a hang out place for bar girls during the day. The other building has their new cafe and bakery as well as the card and jewelry making headquarters. Girls who come to Tamar are immediately provided a place to stay and a job making cards. They also go through a basic Bible course. From there they can receive training in hair and nails, massage, cooking, or baking. It is amazing to see how God is providing for this organization as it continues to grow. Their kitchen was amazing! I wish I could get training there! You can order the cards and crafts made by these women online. Just search Tamar Center.
